What led you to start your apprenticeship at Haines Watts?

I knew that uni was something that I didn't want to do. Having studied accountancy at college and having family who work in accountancy firms, I knew this was the path that I wanted to go down. Haines Watts gave me the opportunity to become an apprentice to study the ICAEW Level 7 qualification, which led me to join Haines Watts.

Uni has its benefits since you won't have to balance working with studying, but it does also come with a hefty payment each year.

Did you find office accountancy to be what you anticipated?

Having a sister and cousin working in accountancy firms, I knew what the environment was going to be like. So yes, it was what I anticipated it to be.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

To be able to earn and learn at the same time was one of the main reason as to why I chose an apprenticeship. I felt like Uni was a waste of time and money, due to the fact that there were apprenticeships out there that would give you the opportunity to earn a full qualification and get an insight in to the work lifestyle.

What would you recommend to others?

Ultimately, it depends on your mindset and what you feel most comfortable with. An apprenticeship does require a lot of time and dedication in order to complete the qualification. However, it does allow you to be debt free and gain an insight to the working lifestyle.
