What led you to start your apprenticeship at Haines Watts?

After passing my level 2 AAT accountancy apprenticeship elsewhere, I wanted to move into an apprenticeship in an environment that created opportunities to apply my newly found knowledge and skills in addition to picking up newer ones as well. It was then, after hearing good reviews, I had a further look into Haines Watts to see what it could offer me as an apprentice. Based on my research, I could see how there was practical and theoretical potential to progress with my studies and my experience as an up and coming trainee.

Did you find office accountancy to be what you anticipated?

Office accountancy has shown me as not only an employee, but a person in general that there will always be challenges but none too big that you can’t overcome them. Being in an office environment has offered me chances to improve and work on particular aspects, to be a team player and a good learner.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

From the moment of leaving secondary school, I knew the apprenticeship route was one I wanted to take. I saw the benefits it could offer me and how it was compatible with my learning style of being hands on.

What would you recommend to others?

Always ask questions. As an apprenticeship, you are learning lots and its important to be able to take the information and be able to show you have understood it. If you do not understand, being in an apprenticeship means you are surrounded by others with experience who may able to assist and explain in a way that best fits you.
