The UK is the leading professional services centre in the world. Business across the globe come to UK based management consultancies for their expertise and guidance and the UK consulting sector is the second largest in the world.
The latest MCA Annual Industry Report shows a growing sector with a fee income of £14.4bn (the MCA represents approximately 50% of the consulting sector). This demand is partly due to clients looking for specialist skills including within IT such as cybersecurity, technology and digital, where demand remains strong. Digital and Technology Consulting remains the largest service provided at 28% (as a % share of total services) followed by Programme and Project Management at 21% and Operations at 9%. This is an increase from 24% the previous year.
In addition, there has been an 18% increase in consulting with clients from the Digital and Technology sector as businesses turn to consultancies to help navigate complex new challenges and market conditions. Clients have also reflected on what their businesses requires in order to keep up to date with the latest transformative and changing technology.
In these times of rapid change and shifts in priorities, the role of trusted advisors remains vital and MCA leaders estimate that consulting activity will grow by around 13% in the next 12 months*, demonstrating the crucial role that consultants play in supporting clients through periods of uncertainty.
